The Guggenheim museum Bilbao opens ‘Painterly Abstraction’
Bilbao (Revista E) – Through selected works from the collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, this exhibition explores major trends in U.S. and European painting in the 1950s and 1960s. The exhibition features approximately 80 works by more than 60 international artists, including Karel Appel, Alberto Burri, Willem de Kooning, Ellsworth Kelly, Piero Manzoni, Jackson Pollock, Antoni Tàpies, and Victor Vasarely, among others.Through selected works from the collections of the Solomon R. The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Presents ‘Haunted: Contemporary Photography/Video/Performance’ Exhibition
Bilbao (Revista E) – From November 6 until March 13 2011, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will host ‘Haunted: Contemporary Photography/Video/Performance’, an exhibition featuring over one hundred works by sixty different artists who examine myriad ways in which photographic imagery is incorporated into recent art, with the aim of underscoring the unique power of recording technologies and documenting a widespread contemporary obsession with accessing the past, both collective and individual. In Bilbao the show will feature more than sixty new works not included in the New York exhibition by internationally renowned artists such as Christian Boltanski, Anna Gaskell, Pierre Huyghe, Philippe Parreno, Gerhard Richter, Lorna Simpson and Jeff Wall, among others. Bilbao (Revista E) - The last days of the summer exhibitions of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao have arrived. Robert Rauschenberg: Gluts and Henri Rousseau will end on September 12 and Anish Kapoor will run through October 12. Two years after his death, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao pays a posthumous tribute to this great American artist by exhibiting Gluts (1986–1995), the last series of his little known works in metal. On the centennial of Henri Rousseau’s death, the Museum, in co-operation with the Fondation Beyeler, presents a comprehensive overview of the thematic diversity of the artist’s career through 30 masterpieces. Finally, on view until October, the most important show in Spain on the work of internationally renowned artist Anish Kapoor presents 20 works that analyze his successful career from the 1970s to the present day.
Jazz Festival in Copenhagen
Copenhage (Revista E ) - More than 1,000 concerts will take place in the Danish capitale on July 2-11. “Giant Jazz” is the festival’s oldest and most prestigious theme and features stars like Herbie Hancock, Martha Wainwright, Joe Lovano, Caetano Veloso, Marcus Miller and Esperanza Spalding. This year’s Giant Jazz venues are The Opera House, the Royal Danish Theatre’s Old Stage and Danish Radio’s Koncerthuset.
Volvo Ocean Race Legends Regatta
Alicante (Revista E) - As part of a rich programme of events, which will include a regatta prize-giving and a host of social events in the week running up to the start of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12, the Volvo Ocean Race Legends Regatta will slot between the Alicante In-Port Race and the Pro-Am Race and the start of leg one on Saturday 5 November. Professional skippers, owners and crew of the boats which made the planet their racetrack are invited to sail once again to a round the world race village, in the first ever official reunion of all who have ever sailed in the world’s premier ocean race since 1973.
Anish Kapoor Exhibition at Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
Bilbao (Revista E) - The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents the first large-scale solo exhibition in Spain dedicated to the work of Anish Kapoor. Over the past thirty years, Kapoor has gained international acclaim as one of the most influential and significant artists of his generation. His exploration of form and space and his use of color and material have profoundly influenced the course of contemporary sculpture. Organized by the Royal Academy of Arts in London and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the exhibition, conceived and installed in close collaboration with the artist, offers insight into Kapoor’s working method and creative process, and includes twenty major works from several series spanning the 1970s to the present. The exhibition will be open until October 12 2010.
2010 World’s Best Restaurant is Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark
Denmark (Revista E) - The Danish restaurant Noma was named ‘The World’s best restaurant’ when the British Restaurant Magazine announced its annual top 50 restaurants in the world on April 26. Noma beat the last four year’s winner: the Spanish restaurant El Bulli, and last year’s number 2: The Fat Duck in the UK. Noma, located in the center of Copenhagen, has specialized in the nordic cuisine, using local ingredients only.
Royal Premiere for ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Movie in London
London (Revista E) - Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway will join the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall in London for the world premiere of Alice In Wonderland. Tim Burton’s 3D movie was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s classic tale of the young girl who embarks upon an exciting adventure in Wonderland. A host of British stars have provided voices for the film, including Barbara Windsor and Stephen Fry. The premiere will take place on February 25 in London.
Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, Presents Frank Lloyd Wright Exhibition
Bilbao (Revista E) - Fifty years after the opening of the acclaimed Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao celebrates this iconic building’s golden anniversary by presenting Frank Lloyd Wright exhibition. This is the largest and most comprehensive exhibition that Europe has dedicated to one of the greatest architects of the 20th century. The exhibition, to be held from October 22, 2009, through February 14, 2010, is co-organized by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, with the sponsorship of Iberdrola. It features 63 visionary architecture projects that range from private homes and civic and government buildings to religious and performance spaces, as well as unrealized urban mega-structures.
